To celebrate the Premier League’s 30th Anniversary, the Premier League Trophy is going on a seven-week tour of England and Wales. During this tour, Cardiff City House of Sport was lucky enough to host the Trophy for its most recent stop.
The young people from Cardiff City FC Foundation were able to learn about the history of the beloved Trophy and had the honour of seeing it in person.
Throughout the tour, the League has offered different clubs the opportunity to name their own Community Captain and in recognition of his incredible work, Cardiff City FC named Greg Morgan as their Community Captain. Over the past 5 years, Greg has supported Cardiff City FC Foundation’s Premier League Kicks programme in Blaenau Gwent, which has helped build the relationship between Gwent Youth Service and Cardiff City FC.
The Premier League Kicks provided young people with free football sessions three times a week. Greg’s hard work and determination has grown and has resulted in a decrease in anti-social behaviour in and around the Blaenau Gwent area. The Kick’s sessions have welcomed over 250 young people in the past five years thanks to Greg’s hard work.
Foundation Director, Gavin Hawke, presented Greg with a PL30 Community Captain armband, pennant and plaque engraved with Greg’s name. This plaque was added to the Premier League Trophy plinth, alongside the other Community Captains, to honour the great work achieved by everyone.
The event came to an end with the Blaenau Gwent’s team playing a friendly football game behind the Premier League Trophy at Cardiff City House of Sport.
It was an honour to host such an amazing event here at House of Sport.
A final congratulations to Greg and thank you for all your hard work.
